On my "current" project list is a Speccy emulator (as I've probably mentioned in here somewhere before) and funnily enough, recently a non-programmer (who works with my wife) heard (from her) that I was doing this and gave me a mint copy of that book! Result!!

I've got a copy as well. :D

Aye, it's only a little thing. It's not really much of a game... more like 'a guy moves around on a blank screen and then dies'. :P

Thanks a lot for the info, Barney! :D

I didn't know that it was the basic loader that loaded the SCR code block into SCREEN$. With that added, I can construct a tape with the loader, the screen and the game! Huzzah!

No probs - in future, it's worth bearing in mind that BASin comes with the complete Sinclair Orange Book, the best reference on Sinclair BASIC there is, bar none. If you do get to play with BASin more, I'd like some feedback on what needs improving if you don't mind :-)

Alrighty!

There doesn't seem to be an invert selection tool in the SCREEN$ paintbox, which is annoying if I'm working with text. After a while, the caption at the top of the paintbox doesn't change when I save under different names or load different files. (The caption at the bottom changes though.)

The names of the tools in the Tools menu don't exactly match up with the titles of the windows they create, and the windows they create don't make taskbar buttons, so it's hard to keep track of them. (I'm not a GIMP fan. :P I'd prefer it if all the IDE stuff lived in its own window.)

Each window seems to have its own button for acting on its own data: there's a 'send to tape' button in the screen painter, and a 'add screen from blah' button in the tape editor. It's not a bad thing, but it's confusing for me as I'm unfamiliar with it. (It took me a while to realise that the 'add current screen to tape' option in the tape editor refered to the main output screen rather than the screen in the painter. (Though you can send the screen from the painter to the main screen))

I'll upload my game soon!

Vinnie Vole's Existential Nightmare by Soren Micros, as seen in the hit BBC web show Ashens Tech Dump. For the ZX Spectrum 48k, 128k, +2/+2a!

http://www.mrdictionary.net/stuff/2009/ ... heVole.zip

It was necessary to create this remake (or would that simply be 'make'?) of the game, so that I could send it back in time to 1986 and prevent a devastating time paradox.

It wouldn't have been possible without the simple power of z88dk and the myriad of aceness weaved into BASin. Thank you! :)

Your loader also did the trick, and it also fixed another problem I had where using sound made the border go white. (I guess it was clearing to the current BASIC paper colour or something.) What effect does the POKE 23739, 111 have?

It prevents the "Program: Blah" and "Bytes: Blah blah" appearing over the top of your loading screen. You may need to do that for each block loaded, or it may be global - I forget which now :)

I thought so! I couldn't see it listed in the manual (my old paper manual with lots of missing pages) though so I thought I was mistaken.
